Can you really get a $300 Salon Hair Color from an At-Home box? If you just want to lighten or deepen your hair, you might get close if you include a good haircut and follow these tips. Read carefully because women often read about where to buy hair color on the Web and in magazines and think this is all I have to do to have beautiful hair color.
Most women also still look at the box on the shelf and think they can get the same shade as the box by simply following the application process that is in the direction sheet…This is not always the best way to great hair color, the following information will help you have a better footing for your new color selection. Unfortunately in hair color you can’t always have what you want in one step, you might need to be a little patient, which I hope is easier for you than it is for me.
Let’s start with choosing you color of choice, as I have mentioned in the past you must stay with a shade that is not too far from your natural hair color. You must keep within one shade lighter or one shade deeper than your natural hair color. If you are now tinting your hair and wish to change it there is another problem.
If you have roots and go lighter your roots will be lighter than your strand that has been tinted before; this could be a problem for some so it would be best to take a strand test before using the new shades, this happens because the one constant rule in hair color is that color over color will not lighten. (Very important to keep in mind when you are planning to buy hair color.)
If you still want to go lighter you will need to see a professional to remove the strand hair color so you can go lighter. This will be done with a chemical color remover, you may want to go for a consultation first because some colorist don’t use this technique and you need to know their level of color experience before they start this process. Often to lift just a touch of color (if it is too deep) the colorist can simply use a bleach wash at the basin to release some of the deeper shade.
The bleach wash is always kept away from the scalp. When this is done you will still need the new formula to be close to the strand because the roots (new-growth ) will be different in texture so they will take a bit different than the strand because the strand still remains chemically treated and will receive the final formula in a different way. Most professionals should know how to keep the strand even from scalp throughout the strand.
Going darker is much less of a problem than going lighter with natural or color treated hair. You must take time to think this through however. And please keep this in mind the next time you buy hair color! If you have any questions, please email me and I will be glad to help!
